Besides working in marine surveys, PT. Prihaditama is also engaged in oceanographic modeling services. Oceanographic models are a mathematical representation of the ocean, which include water column movement, ocean current, ocean waves, and chemical, physics, and biological conditions of the sea. Oceanographic models are used to understand and predict ocean behavior and that changes.

Oceanographic models can be used to solve problems in a wide area. Oceanographic models do not require direct long-term measurement data. However, utilizing available secondary data in the short term is sufficient. The data referred to is tidal data in one-month measurement used for data verification from data model results. Verification data in the form of secondary data can be downloaded from a services provider or official institution.

Recently, we have modeled the movement of ocean currents due to tidal influences in the Buton Strait, Southeast Sulawesi. The model covers a large area, namely the strait between Muna Island and Buton Island. This model takes two different times, namely the highest tide (spring tide) and the lowest tide (neap tide) in January 2019. The choice of simulation time, namely the time of the highest (spring) and lowest (neap) tides can make a difference. The model results are made with the hope of knowing the differences in currents that arise due to the two tidal conditions.

The bathymetry and the tidal as input data display real-time tidal observations at the port of Baubau City. The results of the modeling show the conclusion that ocean currents during the highest tide conditions (spring) are stronger than during the lowest tide conditions (neap tide). We carry out modeling not only for the movement of tidal currents but also to predict sea wave height, patterns of movement, and deposition of sediments, model the movement of pollutants such as trash and oil spills, model shoreline changes, and other problems.
